History
Paris,
located in Bourbon County Kentucky, is best known for three things:
HORSES, HISTORY, and HOSPITALITY. Varden's
is known for two of those. Over Varden's long history it has become
synonymous with hospitality.
Dr.
George Varden bought the building located at 509 Main Street for
$2100 in 1891 and had it completely re-constructed to house his new
pharmacy business. The façade for the building featured pressed
metal Corinthian columns embellished with rosettes. For the inside,
Varden had South African mahogany apothecary cabinets made to show
his wares, and to accent the cabinetry he ordered Tiffany Glass
Company stained glass windows.
Today
the mahogany cabinets, stained glass windows, and even the simple
apothecary cabinets that were original to the building when Varden
bought it can be found intact and in great shape.
